Smithsonian National Museum of African Art  BackTalk

Backtalk: Artists on Native, African, and African-American Stereotypes is an online exhibition featuring nine artists from the early twentieth century to the present, whose works interrogate, reflect and contest racial and cultural stereotypes.

Artists have long been at the center of the creative critical reactions and responses to the power of stereotypical narratives. The select artworks in Backtalk reveal how art can confront the vagaries of history and memory through self-representation and in turn encourage greater human empathy and tolerance among our interconnected global community.

The title animates from BackTalk to TalkBack. The website color palette was built as a continuation of the Aidah Muluneh cover artwork.
